Elaina, a former primary school teacher, is an author, illustrator, and a trustee of the Robert Stephenson Trust. Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Elaina uses her extensive experience working with children and her sense of fun to create stories that capture young children's imagination and take them on an adventure. Her three daughters are the main characters for three of her book series, 'Amelia and her Time Travelling Trainers', 'Imogen the Dinosaur Whisperer' and 'Violet and the Magic Vault'. Science and Engineering - 'Amelia and her Time Travelling Trainer's: Take a Trip with George and Robert Stephenson' is all about the success of the 'Rocket' locomotive at the Rainhill Trials in 1829. Children will learn about how steam engines work, and why 'Rocket' had the best design. 'Amelia and her Time Travelling Trainers: Take a Trip to See Robert Stephenson' has been written to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the first passenger railway to use steam trains to transport passengers. Children can learn all about 'Locomotion' and why it was such an important invention. Animals and flowers (including minibeasts and nocturnal animals) - Current titles include 'Little Ladybird and the Perilous Picnic', 'Tired Little Bat' and 'Little Robin and the delicious Gingerbread'. 'Little Lost Mole' (2nd. ed.) will be released in 2026 and 'Little Bee, Lost in Laundry' will be released in 2027. Dinosaurs - 'Imogen the Dinosaur Whisperer: Triceratops Trouble', released in May 2024, is inspired by her middle daughter and was shortlisted for the BBC Ignite Programme in 2021 and made it to the 4th and final round of the Best Indie Book Awards in 2024. Imogen has a special gift, she can talk to dinosaurs! With Spot the Gecko by her side, Imogen keeps the dinosaurs safe and out of trouble. The second instalment 'Imogen the Dinosaur Whisperer: Ankylosaur Antics' is due to be released in 2026. Magical Stories - 'Violet and the Magic Vault' involves a vault of dressing up clothes only Violet (and Fluffily the guinea pig) can see. The vault presents them with an unfinished costume and sends them on an adventure to find the missing piece. 'Violet and the Magic Vault: A Mermaid Adventure' is currently available, while new instalments are due for release in 2026/2027 and include 'A Pirate Adventure' and 'A Broomstick Adventure'. Also available is 'The Workshop Elves and the Missing Baubles' a magical festive story which is very popular due to the antics of the mischievous Christmas baubles. Elaina visits libraries for book readings and craft events, schools for author days, which include lessons in character description and scene setting, and events in collaboration with Grasmere GingerbreadⓇ and Hopetown Darlington.

I’m a published poet and songwriter with a strong background in education, now semi-retired and focusing on bringing my books and creative learning resources into primary schools. I’ve had 9 books published to date (with 12 written in total) and I’m passionate about helping children enjoy reading, language and storytelling through engaging, age-appropriate content. Children’s books for Primary Schools My children’s titles are designed to support schools looking to: I’m keen to work with primary schools to get my books into classrooms and school libraries, and to support literacy in a way that feels fun, inclusive and motivating for pupils. Writing support for older pupils (Intermediate level) I’m also the author of an education-focused book, So You Wanna Be A Writer, which is well-suited to intermediate students who want structured guidance and encouragement to develop their writing skills. This can be particularly useful for schools looking to support creative writing, enrichment, or pupil voice projects. Education experience and wider skills Alongside my writing, I hold multiple teaching qualifications and have taught in mainstream education. I also work as an instructor at my club, delivering self-defence and Ju-Jitsu training, bringing a calm, supportive approach to confidence-building and personal development. At Tawny Owl Wood Children’s Books, we create stories that celebrate imagination, kindness, and belonging. Each book begins with real family moments and grows into beautifully illustrated tales where fairies, magic, and nature help children see the wonder in being themselves and accepting others. Our stories are designed to spark empathy and conversation — perfect for classrooms exploring diversity, inclusion, and emotional literacy. They gently introduce themes like friendship, difference, and courage in ways that help children feel safe and inspired to share their own experiences. Teachers tell us our books open doors to thoughtful discussions and creative writing activities, while children simply fall in love with the characters and worlds we build. Tawny Owl Wood Children’s Books aren’t just stories — they’re seeds for empathy and imagination, helping every child see that their story matters, too.
